Back to the Sycamore Deli with an L32

It was dark, but I scored a table near the light to work on this then moved back to my favorite table by the Royal I want.

Not a great photo, doesn't quite get the mood.

A cell photo from a previous week taken while working on my poetry.  It captures the mood better.

Other than the missing cover on the '68 the biggest difference is the carriage sides.

  1. Nice typecast, I like your enthusiasm to just type. I haven't really done much public typing, but a pub sound awesome, maybe your post will spur me to taking some real action on this front.

I haven't typed with an L32, but I had two L22s and right now have an L22 and an L21. And four other machines, too.

    Happy typing.

    1. I have typed on a L22 and it is very very similar to an L32. It might actually be slightly (gasp!) better than an L32 (but a lot of that has to do with the individual machine and condition and so forth).

When it comes to public typing, you gotta just do it. The worst that can happen is you are asked to leave. Or you get swarmed with interested people and get no work done.

  2. This looks like a lot of fun, and you are a pretty good drunk typist!

    1. Hey, if you are down by Virginia Tech for any reason let me know and we'll do it. And thanks for the compliment, I find my typing ability is pretty random regardless of how clear headed I am. Some days I sit down and there is a typo every sentence. Usually switching machines solves this, but then I'll pick up the same machine next day and be fine. I guess there are different machines for different moods. That is why we all need to have so many right? People are wrong when they say "but don't you really only need one?" ;)

  3. Interesting typecast. I had to look at my 32 to make sure I recalled it had the metal sides. You might find this old post of mine interesting:

  4. It's always nice to have a spare Olivetti. ( :
Interesting post and I agree with Richard, you're a damn good drunken typist, you type better than I do when I'm sober!

    1. Haha, thanks! I will admit I do not touch type, I hunt and peck but with great speed (I can outtype a few of my machines) and sometimes without looking. I touch type on my laptop but in a super sloppy way that is not correct by any stretch of the imagination (maybe it isn't touch typing, I don't know). I find the more I use my typewriters the less errors I generally make.

  5. Nice post! I like the script typeface and typing without a ribbon cover never did Woody Allen's writing career any harm either!
